"Tomorrow's Conversations" is a woodblock print project completed in the summer of 2020. In late 2019, McFarlane was invited by the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia to create a special print project based on his glyph imagery. McFarlane explains that "I've titled the collection 'Tomorrow's Conversations,' as if they are perfectly preserved artifacts, found years in the future and someone was attempting to decipher meanings from the glyphs."
To realize this project, McFarlane worked with Master Printer Alexis Nutini in creating a series of woodblocks made with a digitally run router. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, McFarlane and Nutini had to maintain minimal contact and communicated mostly over calls and emails. Through those emails, McFarlane gave Nutini instructions on color and placement of the plates on the page. They did meet in person for three important printing days.
"Tomorrow's Conversations" is a variable edition of 34 prints. All of the prints utilize one or more of five woodblocks to create many variations out of a limited number of blocks and colors. The prints have been added to the Brandywine Workshop's archives, one of, if not the most, important print archives in the country.
Each print measures 29.5" x 21.5". 15 of the 34 prints are available for purchase through Bridgette Mayer Gallery at: https://bridgette-mayer-gallery.myshopify.com/collections/tim-mcfarlane-brandywine-workshop-prints
