Artist Statement:
Long Distance is about the journey from one point to another, documenting the collapse and attempt to rebuild a close relationship. The paintings depict deconstructed landscapes spanning vast physical and emotional distances. The series progresses from dark to light, alternating between dense and bare fields, a conceptual space that I occupied throughout the course of these travels.
Creating art has always been a constant, stabilizing force in my life, especially in this past year. I questioned, despaired, misunderstood, compromised, and attempted to accept. I felt unsafe, disconnected, and at moments free. These painting move from start to finish and recognize that there remains a long distance still to go.
