Bridgette Mayer Gallery announces Eileen Neff’s participation in upcoming exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Philadelphia, PA – March 1, 2021. Bridgette Mayer Gallery is proud to announce that Gallery Artist Eileen Neff will be featured in the upcoming exhibition New Grit: Art & Philly Now at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The show celebrates Philadelphia’s vibrant, diverse, and experimental art scene by bringing together pieces by 25 established and emerging artists working in a variety of media. The exhibition is broken into a series of subcategories that put similarly themed pieces in exciting dialogues. New Grit will be the inaugural exhibition of the PMA’s newly renovated Modern and Contemporary Galleries. Neff will show five pieces, featured in the section (Un)Natural Histories, where she and artist Micah Danges collaborated on the installation of their work, an investigation of the concrete as well as blurred distinctions between the real and artificial in depictions of the natural world. Neff’s ongoing interest in responding to the sites of her work’s installation will also be evident here.
About the artist:
Eileen Neff (born 1945 in Philadelphia) is an artist based in Philadelphia. Her work relies primarily on photography, drawing on historic and contemporary concepts of picturing the natural and constructed world, as well as being an investigation of studio practice itself. Her most recent work probes the relationship of ideas about landscape to architecture and place. Her work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia; the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, Ireland; and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. She has been in many group exhibitions, at the Michener Art Museum, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, and Wave Hill, among others. Neff’s work is represented in the collections of institutions including the Hood Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Neff has received awards including a John S. Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography, a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant.
