Philadelphia, PA - December 13, 2024. Bridgette Mayer Gallery in partnership with The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is delighted to announce the 127th Live Annual Exhibition: Land & Sea and Everything in Between, a juried exhibition by Bridgette Mayer. The exhibition will be on view from Wednesday, January 8 to Saturday, January 25, 2025. There will be an opening reception on Friday, January 10th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

The exhibition features 53 artists, all by Academy Fellowship Members, highlighting a variety of different media – including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, fiber art, digital art, and photography. The show’s title references the different subject matters, diversity, and reach that art has in connecting us all. In jurying the exhibition, Bridgette Mayer had the honor of selecting six awards to participating artists which will be announced during the opening reception. Bridgette states: “This exhibition was a joy to curate as we had over 120 incredible entries showcasing the strength of PAFA’s education and programming over it’s many years. The selection I made encompasses a range of strong works both large and small from figurative to abstract. We had many sculptors apply and there is a beautiful range of sculpture in all media. The public and artists will be delighted and thrilled to see the works on display.”

About The Fellowship of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts:
The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is one of the oldest Alumni art nonprofits in America. Staffed solely by volunteers, which speaks of the impressive loyalty and dedication of our Board and artists. An independent entity, its purpose is to benefit the entire PAFA family, including students, faculty and staff in addition to Alumni.

About Our Beginnings:
On Monday evening, April 19, 1897, approximately five hundred people met in the Pennsylvania Academy lecture room to form an organization of alumni that would come to be known worldwide as The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. They came together at the behest of Edward H. Coates, President of PAFA, and Harrison S. Morris, Managing Director. The idea had been endorsed by 32 prominent artists. Robert Vonnoh, a former student and later Academy instructor, suggested that a notice be sent to several thousand alumni. As stated in the notice of the meeting, those in attendance at this initial gathering were then, as now, affirming their interest "in the welfare of the Academy and the benefits to be derived from a common purpose and close union." That night the Philadelphia painter, Charles Dana, was elected as president and six vice presidents, including Cecilia Beaux and Charles H. Stevens, were chosen.
