Gallery Artist Group Show

November 27 - December 22, 2007

Philadelphia, PA – The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of new works featuring all Gallery artists. The “Black & White Show” will run from November 27, 2007 – December 22, 2007 with an opening reception First Friday, December 7th from 6-8:30 p.m. The exhibition will also feature a Vault Room installation by Candy Depew.

Eleven gallery artists will be featured in the show: Elyce Abrams, Allen Bentley, Mark Brosseau, Charles Burwell, Deborah Caiola, Kate Davis Caldwell, Clark Gibson, Dana Hargrove, Tim McFarlane, Rebecca Rutstein, and Alexis Serio. Many of the works are city inspired pieces that explore unconventional painting techniques such as, white on white and multi patterned paintings. Shape and line are driving forces.

For the majority of artists, the use of color is important and often explosive. For this show color has been stripped away leaving versatility, skill and overall interesting work. For example, Allen Bentley’s dancers often whirl and twirl in seas of vibrant color. Placed in black and white the dancers become more intense, forced to stand alone, no longer partially obstructed by color.

The Vault Room will feature an installation by Candy Depew titled “touched.” Depew’s interest in the decorative arts and the organization of interior space is apparent in her sculptures and installations.

“The Black & White Show” will run through December 22, 2007. The artist’s will be present at the opening reception Friday, December 7th from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10– 6:00, and by appointment.
