The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is proud to present Rapture, a solo show by gallery artist, Kate Davis Caldwell. Rapture will run from June 3- July19, 2008 with an opening reception First Friday, June 6th from 6:00-8:30pm. Rapture features mixed media works on panel that depict nature and its underlying duality- awe and fear, familiarity and unease- as well as the simplicity of water, land and sky.
Davis will show panels ranging from 46 x 60” by 24 x 24” as well as an installation of approximately thirty 5 x 4 ½” panels titled “Open Water.”
Kate Davis Caldwell ventures into a world of black, white and sepia tone. Inspired by vintage photographs, black and white photography and video footage, her new work abandons the usual color palette, and is created almost entirely in charcoal. Blending painting and drawing, she adds paint to the panels only as completion nears.
Writing on her recent collection, Davis states “Rapture presents an atmosphere of introspection. A consideration of nature that explores both its profound simplicity and acute complexity, which in context, is simultaneous.”
Kate Davis Caldwell received her B.F.A. from the University of Vermont in 1998. This is Davis’ fourth solo exhibition at the Bridgette Mayer Gallery. Davis has also recently shown in group exhibitions throughout the area at numerous locations including the following: Abington Art Center, Jenkintown, PA; Bridgette Mayer Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Independence Visitors Center, Philadelphia, PA; AAF Contemporary Art Fair; City Hall, Philadelphia, PA, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Lenhartsville, PA. In August 2005, Kate completed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. She currently lives and works in Stockton, NJ.
