Opening Reception with the Artist

The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to announce the premier solo show of Philadelphia painter, Keith Crowley. Wilderness will be on view from March 3 – March 28, 2009, with an opening reception with the artist, First Friday, March 6th, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm.
Keith Crowley's oil on canvas, and oil on aluminum paintings transport the viewer to a modern day wilderness. The monotony of a daily commute becomes an adventure, as cars become nomads, digital signs become oracles and truckers become guardians of ancient tombs. Crowley's intense layering and color technique is essential to the ethereal quality of his work. Through his process landscapes become blurred, as do the line between the everyday and the magical. Speaking on his new work, Crowley states, "The repetitive cycles of haste produce meditative stillness. This contradiction is the basis of my exploration of color and its relationship to the familiar yet elusive landscape."

Keith Crowley received his M.F.A. in 2001 from Savannah College of Art and Design. Savannah GA, following his studies there for a B.F.A. in 1999. This is Crowley's first solo show at the Bridgette Mayer Gallery. Most recently, he has shown in "Art of the State" at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA, as well as the Fox Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, in an exhibition titled, "Journeys in Contemporary Art." Additionally, Crowley has exhibited at the Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown, NJ, the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, PA, Eastern University, St. Davids, PA and the Starland Alternative Space, Savannah, GA amongst others. Keith Crowley lives and paints in Philadelphia.
