In the Vault Room:
"Wondrous Sequences" by Mark Brosseau
The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to present its second solo exhibition by artist Mark Brosseau. "Wondrous Spaces" will be on view from July 6 - 31, 2010, with an opening reception Friday, July 9, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. The exhibition will feature approximately 19 mixed media paintings on panel, canvas and board. Also on view in the Vault Room will be an exhibition of drawings by the artist in accordion books, titled "Wondrous Sequences".
Infused with a sense of play and wonderment, Brosseau's latest body of work demonstrates spontaneous, yet precise explorations of our environment. Delving into the relationships of objects and the spaces they inhabit, the artist conjures up bright, imaginative compositions that invite the viewer to re-examine one's visual experience. Originating from a fleeting moment in real-life, or from the relics of art history, the paintings are visually stimulating, inspiring new ways of both seeing and feeling. Says the artist, " The spaces I create are meant to be not only enjoyed, but inhabited and felt – they present an opportunity for someone to journey through my process of creating and understanding this visual experience."
Mark Brosseau received his B.A. in Studio Art from Dartmouth University, and his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania. His recent solo exhibitions include "WordSpace" at Bridgette Mayer Gallery (2006), "Vocabulary" at St. Joseph's University (Philadelphia, PA, 2005), and three solo exhibitions in Iceland, where the artist completed a Fulbright Fellowship in painting and printmaking in 2002. His work is included in public and private collections in Philadelphia, PA, Hanover, NH and Reykjavik, Iceland. Brosseau has been an active Visiting Artist instructor at several area universities and curates shows in Philadelphia, where he lives and paints.
