The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to present a new collection of paintings by artist Tim McFarlane. The exhibition titled Right Now will feature new acrylic on panel paintings. Sizes range from 16 x 20” to 36 x 36”. Also taking place at the gallery: live drawing by Tim McFarlane in the Vault Room. This site specific installation titled, This Moment, will occur throughout the month and will start on Saturday, April 4th from 1-3pm (please visit www.bridgettemayergallery.com for a list of dates).
Layer upon layer of grid-like forms combine and enhance one another through McFarlane's highly developed use of color and composition. Combinations of subtle and bold colors ebb and flow through the linear grids giving depth and movement to his paintings. McFarlane has been using his signature style of linear grid imagery for years, and in this new body of work, has begun to play more with the ground they inhabit. Some backgrounds are omitted altogether bringing full attention to the form, while other backgrounds have thick, bold stripes that set the stage for linear forms to pop and morph.
Also, on view in the Vault Room, This Moment by Tim McFarlane. Speaking on This Moment, McFarlane states, "Coinciding with my exhibition of recent works in the gallery space, This Moment will reflect its title in the sense that the works made will be spontaneous and temporary. I will be working in the vault room at various times throughout the exhibition, making works that may not last the same session in which they were begun." McFarlane will work directly on the walls of the space while experimenting with temporary drawings.
